Tewantin Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre believe Clinical Pilates and Functional Exercise programmes have a definite place in your rehabilitation. It is an exercise based approach and considered a useful tool as a part of your treatment pathway.
Our Functional Exercise 360 (FEx360) is a new approach which intends to correct dynamic postural deficits that may have resulted from many factors, including injury, poor or no rehabilitation, poor postural habits, etc.
Central to FEx360 is identification of these dynamic postural stability deficits (directional bias). We determine this directional bias by a Clinical Assessment process. It has been shown that movement and exercise toward an individual’s directional preference for movement improves both pain and movement, compared to movement and exercise in the opposite direction.
While the first 3-4 sessions can be filled with anticipation, they can also provide a positive outlook in taking control of your movement. Classes are where the FUN starts, and also the hard work.
We will put the FUN in Functional and that is what our classes are about, helping you achieve your goals and be Your Best.
What is involved in starting Clinical Pilates or FEx360;
Initial Assessment
An Initial Assessment with a trained Physiotherapist, who will determine your directional preference. This assessment will involve a Core and Functional Assessment to determine your ability and strength to join a class or continue on a 1-1 basis.
On completion of this Assessment you will be given 1 exercise to take home and perform once a day.
1 on 1 sessions
These sessions include a follow up discussion about the 1st session, determine if the initial exercise was beneficial and then progression of that directional bias exercise programme
The reason these 2 sessions are so important is to familiarise you with your direction specific exercises and increase your confidence with using the reformer.
Once you have completed these sessions you should be ready to move into a class format with your individualised programme.
After your Assessment and 1 on 1 sessions you will be given an individualised programme based on your preferred directional bias designed by your Physiotherapist.
